CL Library kicks off new Play Day Program

The first Play Day at the Canyon Lake Library was a collaboration of the community. Yoga for kids was presented by licensed Yoga Instructor Tanya Murguia. Tiffany of mentoringtinyhumans.com and a Momco hostess brought craft items, treats and give-a-ways. She also coordinated the pizza donation from A’s Pizza which was enjoyed at the end of the program. Developmental toys and music were made possible by the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library. Attendees included Andrew Schlarmann, Tegan Perry and Billy Santolucito, to name a few.

The Play Day Program includes Toddler Story Time which is led by Canyon Lake resident Gretchen Blackford and held weekly on Mondays at 11 a.m. at the library. The last Monday of the month is Play Day where the experience is expanded.

The Writers Club, a program for middle school children interested in creative writing, meets at the library on Mondays at 3:30. The writing expression is always from the individual point of view but may be channeled into poetry or prose as directed by the challenge of the week.

Free tutoring is available at the library on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. The program includes high school students who are available to assist younger children with their work. Participants should bring an example of work they need help understanding.

Miss Ginny’s next Preschool Story Time will be celebrating World Space Week on Friday, Oct. 6, at 11:30 a.m. The program, for children ages three to five, includes music, movement and a craft to make and take home.

The library will be closed for Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 9. The holiday is celebrated by Riverside County Library System (RCLS). The Murrieta Library will be open. Murrieta Library is a city library in the cooperative and not a Riverside County branch. As part of the cooperative RCLS library cards can be used there and materials from there may be returned to the Canyon Lake Library. Most internet resources and services are available during the holiday, including book downloads, database resources, professional web services, item requests and individual account information including renewal of renewable items.

All programs at the Canyon Lake Library are free to the public and do not require library membership. Membership is required to check out materials and to use many of the internet programs available from home.

The library offers free books, large print books, free internet access, reading programs, book clubs and more. The library is located inside the city hall building. Hours are Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System and honors cards and returns from other affiliated libraries. For more information, call 951-244-9181.
