Letter: Kids Fishing Derby

I want to thank the hundreds of kids and their families who participate each year in the Canyon Lake Bassmasters annual Kids Fishing Derby. Thank you to those who make this event happen and to our much needed and appreciated sponsors.

Thank you to the Bassmasters Club members who plan and put together one of the best of many family events for our community each year.

The kids’ smiles and excitement to fish, some for the very first time, is priceless. Some of the kids have turned a fun day of fishing into a passion. Some have gone on to fish FLW tournaments at the state and national level.

The best feeling for me is seeing our families spending the day together and the sense of community. Let’s not forget the hot dogs, snow cones and prizes for each participant.

Lastly, its sportsmanship and memories. I have and adults tell me they won a trophy at this event more than 20 years ago. It’s an honor to be a part of the Bassmasters and this awesome place we call home.
