Play Day is a new program coming to the Canyon Lake Library on Monday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Play Day offers crafts, children’s yoga and story time. The program, in cooperation with Momco, is an experiment in making additional creative experiences for young children in the early stages of physical and language development.

School is back and tutoring is available both online and in person with student volunteers. Tutoring is available on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. A library card is not required, however, participants should bring a sample of what they need assistance with. The tutors are accomplished student volunteers assisting younger children.

The Writers Club meets at the library at 3:30 p.m. on Mondays.

Miss Ginny’s Preschool Story Time will meet on Sept. 22 at 11:30 a.m. The theme will be “Fall” and Sarah the Dancing Dog will be on hand to entertain those in attendance. Sarah is a trained service dog to be especially gentle with children. Trained service dogs are often used as an audience for children reading out loud. This free program for preschool age children includes stories, music and crafts kids can make and take home.

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month. A small reward will be available for those who obtain their first RCLS card at the Canyon Lake Library in September. The first card is free; replacement cards are $1. RCLS cards are useable at all libraries in the cooperative library system. Any item checked out on the card may be returned to any library where the card can be used. Parents or legal guardian permission is needed for a child’s card.

Services at the Canyon Lake Library will have some interruptions during the upcoming week. All Riverside County libraries will be closed today, Sept. 15, for All Staff Day. Staff will be attending professional and library training workshops. The Library will re-open on Saturday.

The library software that manages items and library cards will be offline Sept. 17 through Sept. 21. The library will continue to checkout and receive items, however, the transactions will not be reflected in accounts until the software is brought back into service. No new or replacement library cards will be issued during this time. Internet services will be available and programs will continue as usual. Full services are projected to return Friday, Sept. 22.

The Canyon Lake Library offers free books, large print books, free internet access, reading programs, book clubs and more.

All programs at the Canyon Lake Library are free to the public and do not require library membership. Membership is required to check out materials and to use many of the internet programs available from home.

The library is located inside the city hall building. Hours are Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System and honors cards and returns from other affiliated libraries.
