Letter: Weed Abatement

Editor, The Friday Flyer

I have lived in this community for 24 years and have seen a lot of changes, some good and some bad. I am writing because something has happened over the years that just doesn’t seem right. I live next door to a lot that has not been weed abated this year. The weeds at one point were five to six feet high. Now they are dried and ready to explode into flames with the toss of a match. The fire department and city can’t do anything, only the POA can. It used to be that the owner or the POA cleaned it off and then billed the owner of the lot. Well that doesn’t seem to be the case any longer. Now they have to go through legal matters and contact the owner (this one lives out of the U.S.) and they continue to fine the property owner. Well that doesn’t make the very dried weeds go away. I am frustrated in trying to get someone to do something with the hazard that I live next too. Shame on our POA for not getting it taken care of in a timely manner and doing nothing. I guess they would rather have a lawsuit from another property owner if and when their house catches fire.
