Regatta raises money for children’s cancer research

The Canyon Lake Fitness and Triathlon Club hosted its 6th annual Paddle and Pedal Regatta on Saturday. More than 100 people participated in the community event.

“It was great to see the East Bay full of kayaks, paddle boards, canoes and pedal boats,” said Event Organizer Karin Cassidy. “Not only was this a great morning workout, but a wonderful way to connect with other community members.”

The event kicked off at 10 a.m. under sunny skies and favorable temperatures. Canyon Lakers of all ages cruised from Indian Beach to the East Port boat launch and back. Participants enjoyed a club sponsored barbecue after the cruise.

Sales from the barbecue, raffle and paddle board rentals raised $751. Proceeds will be donated to Padres Pedal the Cause in support of children’s cancer research at Rady Children’s Hospital.

The Fitness and Triathlon Club promotes healthy lifestyles through swimming, cycling, running and other cross training activities.

The annual Tour de Canyon Lake and Paddle and Pedal Regatta are among the community events the club hosts. Club membership is not required for these community events. The club is hosting a Sprint/Olympic Triathlon Sept. 16, the CanyonMan 70.3 Triathlon on Oct. 28 and a 5K Turkey Trot in November. These events are open to club members.

Annual club dues are $30 for individuals and $40 for families. For more information, visit canyonlaketriathlonclub.com.
