Help ‘Clear the Shelters,’ adopt August 19

Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption initiative, will be held on Saturday, August 19, when nearly 700 shelters across the country team up with NBC and Telemundo television stations for the 3rd annual Clear the Shelters event. The goal is to Clear the Shelters by finding forever homes for as many animals as possible. More than 73,400 pets have been adopted in Clear the Shelters day events since the campaign was launched in 2015.

Across the country, more than 53,000 pets found “fur”ever homes during last year’s event, but millions more remain homeless. According to the ASPCA, every year, 7.6 million animals end up in shelters nationwide and only 2.7 million are adopted.

An interactive map at cleartheshelters.com shows shelters participating throughout the county. Animal Friends of the Valleys (AFV), a shelter that provides services to Canyon Lake, is a participating shelter that is offering pet adoptions for just $20 on Aug. 19. AFV  is located at 33751 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Some of the available animals up for adoption can be viewed online at animalfriendsofthevaleys.com
