Planning underway for annual Mermaid Festival

Planning is well underway for the 3rd annual Mermaid Festival. This community-wide event, sponsored by the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club will take place on Saturday, Aug. 26, at Indian Beach.

Mermaid Festival Chairperson Lyne Hall said this free event will feature a Mermaid Marketplace with vendors, Mermaid Lounge selling beer, wine, soft drinks, water and the signature mermaid drink with a color changing cup, a kids zone, contests, food, opportunity and grand prize drawings, silent auction,

Mermaid Grotto for photo opportunities and the ever popular Cardboard Boat Challenge.

The Woman’s Club will be selling street tacos and kid-friendly food.

The Family Matters Club will host a kid’s zone featuring games and jumpers. Wristbands are $5 each.

Entertainment will be provided by local entertainer Aprile DeAnne. Also, look for an appearance by rival “Pirates of the Lake,” otherwise known as the Canyon Lake Yacht Club.

Drawings and Auction

Grand prize drawing tickets cost $5 each. The prizes include a Lily Pad, Kayak, over-sized inflatable rubber duck and three $100 cash prizes.

The opportunity drawing prizes include items donated by vendors and local merchants.

Silent auction items include a Wyland painting and sunset champagne pontoon cruise. Everyone is invited to come in mermaid or pirate-inspired garb.

Businesses and individuals interested in donating a prize for the drawings or silent auction are asked to contact Shawna Bowen at shawnakaybowen@aol.com.

Contests

This event will feature several contests that will reward winners with cash prizes. Costume contests include Little Mermaid, Little Pirate and Adult Best Dressed Mermaid/Pirate/Wench. There will also be a Knobby Knees contest for men ages 18 years old and older.

Vendors and Sponsors

Vendors and sponsors are crucial to the success of the Mermaid Festival. Vendors, especially those who specialize in beach or nautical merchandise with a mermaid or pirate angle, are needed. Vendors or clubs who can do face painting and hair braiding are also being sought.

Vendor spaces are available for $40 per space. To reserve a vendor space, contact Sue Collins at 951.246.2773 or suecollinsrealtor@gmail.com.

Sponsors are being sought. Sponsorship may be in the form of items, gift cards or services. To inquire about sponsorship, contact Shawna Bowen at shawnakaybowen@aol.com.
