AFV Fundraiser

Eat at Chipotle at 30024 Haun Rd., Menifee, on Wednesday, Aug. 30, between 4 and 8 p.m. and half of the proceeds will be donated to Animal Friends of the Valleys (AFV). Be sure to tell the cashier you’re supporting the AFV fundraiser.

Celebration of Life Tournament

Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and nearby cities, is hosting its 16th annual Celebration of Life Golf Tournament on Friday, Aug. 26, at Temecula Creek Inn, 44501 Rainbow Canyon Rd., Temecula. The tournament is one of two primary fundraisers for Michelle’s Place since 2001.

The entry fee is $135 per person and includes breakfast and lunch. The tournament will start with a putting contest before teeing off with a shotgun start. There will be mini competitions at various holes. Lunch, awards and silent auction will follow the tournament. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Grief Share

Pastor Pete Van Dyke, along with Hal and Juanita Adams, are ready to begin another thirteen-week Bereavement Support Group beginning Monday, Aug. 14, at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church. Participants are asked to sign up by calling the church office at 951-244-1877, ext. 204.

CLAWS Bunco

Canyon Lake women are invited to attend the Canyon Lake Association of Women (CLAWS) group bunco on the second Wednesday of the month in the Magnolia Room at the country club. The cost is $10 per player; games begin at 3 p.m. Participants are asked to bring canned and packaged food for the community cupboard. For more information, call Betty Henry at 951-244-3091.

Lioness Bingo

Lioness Bingo is held at the Canyon Lake Senior Center on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to State Law, Bingo is limited to those over the age of 18. Admission is $10 for a six-sheet set; special games are available for $1 each. Those wishing to attend from outside the community should call Nancy Coughlin at 951-805-0543 or Joanna Spiller at 951-244-1553 for gate entrance.

Caregivers Connection

The Canyon Lake Community Church’s Caregivers Connection offers an opportunity for caregivers to share common problems, needs and experiences. Anyone caring for a loved one for illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart issues or Parkinson’s is welcome to attend. The group meets in Room 6 at the church on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

On Aug. 14, Jane Framer will speak about “Living with Dementia”, with a DVD of Neurologist Richard Taylor explaining terms and experience. There will be a Q&A after the presentation. On Aug. 28, there will be a DVD presentation on the stages of dementia. On Sept. 11, Terri Colon from Elder Care Consultants will present a talk on elder care. Free Sprinkler Nozzles

Elsinore Valley Water District is partnering with Western Municipal Water District to offer up to 25 free Toro Precision sprinkler nozzles to its customers. The Toro nozzles are more efficient than regular pop-up spray nozzles and can help customers save both water and money. Supplies are limited.

Cub Scouts

Cub Scout Pack 346 is kicking off its annual Popcorn Fundraiser on Aug. 19. The sales from this event helps to fund activities for campouts and other events. Last year, Jalepeno Cheddar and Caramel corn were top picks. The scouts are also accepting donations for popcorn for men and women in the military. Cub Scout Pack 346 will be kicking off its scouting year on Aug. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lamb’s Fellowship, 21901 Railroad Canyon Rd., Lake Elsinore, 92532. Those interested in joining should attend the meeting. Pack 346 serves Canyon Lake, Canyon Hills and Tuscany Hills and is for boys in kindergarten through 5th grades.

Walk of Hope

On Sept. 24, Michelle’s Place is hosting its inaugural Walk of Hope at Vail Headquarters in Temecula. This event includes live music, food and awards. Registration for breast cancer survivors is $15. Registration for ages 13 and older is $30; $40 the day of the event. Child registration for ages four to 12 is $15. Children ages three and under are free. Online registration is available at michellesplace.org. Registration includes a T-shirt, walk medal and post race entertainment. Participants who turn in registrations after Sept. 11 will not be guaranteed a walk T-shirt.

Awards will be given in the 5K for Best Team T-shirts, Best Stroller Decorations and Best Dog Costume. Awards will also be given for the highest fundraising team or individual.

The funds raised through the Walk of Hope fundraiser go directly to Michelle’s Place to help provided the necessary support services to women and families dealing with breast cancer and to individuals with any cancer in need of support.

Women’s Circles

Women’s Circles are small groups of women who meet once a month in each other’s homes or in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. They pray and support missionaries, and pray for and encourage one another. Being a member of a Women’s Circle provides an opportunity for small group fellowship.

Faith Circle meets the third Monday at 7 p.m.; Julia Circle meets the second Monday at 10:30 a.m.; Priscilla Circle meets the first Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.; Ruth Circle meets the second Wednesday at 10 a.m.; Sonshine Circle meets the third Monday at 9:30 a.m.; Sonrise Circle meets the second Sunday at 5:30 p.m.; Love Circle meets the second Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

TCHS Fundraisers

Football players are selling discount cards for $10. The discount cards are good at 30 locations in the community. Cards are valid through June 30, 2018. They can be purchased from any Titan football player or by emailing tchsfootballboosterclub@gmail.com.

Farmers Market

The Canyon Lake Farmers Market operates every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot.

Car Cruises

The City of Lake Elsinore, Downtown Merchants Association and Lamb’s Fellowship Car Show have teamed up to bring back the car cruises that took place in downtown Lake Elsinore. Cool classic cars will once again cruise into Lake Elsinore’s historic Main Street on the last Saturday of the month from June through September. Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. This event is free to attend and to participate; there are no fees or pre-registration.

Organizers say there will be trophies, raffles, art, shopping and more. They are also working on getting live bands for a couple of the events. For more information, visit lake-elsinore.org/carcruise.

Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery is a program that teaches and gives one tools on how to address their hurts, habits, and hang-ups so that they can move forward and find their purpose and a life filled with joy. Participants discover that they are not alone in what they are going through and find people to walk alongside them. Celebrate Recovery meets on Sundays at 6 p.m. in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church.

Coffee with Nancy

Residents are invited to meet with Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District Division 1 Director Nancy Horton, a Canyon Lake resident, the last Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sports Stop. The coffee is complimentary. Nancy is available to talk about changing guidelines for water conservation, answer questions about conservation rebates and the district’s water rates, etc. Residents are invited to bring their water bill for clarification of costs.

Menifee Historical Museum

The Menifee Valley Historical Museum contains displays about Canyon Lake history, provided by Canyon Lake pioneers Don and Elinor Martin who sometimes serve as docents. The museum, located in the old Menifee Elementary School on Garbani Rd. in Menifee, is open Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Quarter Bus Rides

Through Sept. 4, students in first through 12th grades can ride the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) for a quarter. While a school ID is the preferred method of getting a quarter ride, bus drivers also accept RTA Youth ID cards, or California driver’s licenses or state IDs showing the rider is under the age of 19.

MOPS

Mother of Preschoolers (MOPS) meets on the first and third Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church. MOPS seeks to support mothers during the early years of their children’s lives. By connecting with other moms and mentor moms, craft projects and guest speakers, women are encouraged in their physical, emotional and spiritual journeys. Child care is provided.

The moms fellowship over hot coffee and warm breakfast, then enjoy a speaker or craft. Those desiring “coffee talk” are invited to contact Melissa Roberts at 951-757-6010.

MOMS Next

MOMS Next is an open group and an accepting place for all mothers of school age kids to come, just as they are, to experience authentic community, personal, growth, practical help and spiritual hope. the group meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church.

Breast Cancer Resources

Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group in Canyon Lake led by Janelle Basham and Kimberly Slingerland. The pair mentor, educate and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their journey. For more information, visit CLBosomBuddies.com.

Michelle’s Place is a breast cancer resource center serving this area, located at 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, Temecula. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Steering Wheel Covers

The Lioness Club offers custom-made steering wheel covers made of many different materials and patterns, which keep steering wheels from becoming too hot to handle. They also work well during cold weather. The price is $8 for one; $15 for two. The profits from this project go toward the club’s ongoing philanthropic projects. Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) meets monthly on the second Thursday (except for July and August) from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Needlework Group

Host Families Sought

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, in cooperation with area high schools, is looking for local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries: Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Japan, to name a few.

ASSE students are enthusiastic and excited to experience American culture while they practice their English. They also love to share their own culture and language with their host families.

The exchange students have pocket money for personal expenses and full health, accident and liability insurance. ASSE students are selected based on academics and personality, and host families can choose their student from a wide variety of backgrounds, countries and personal interests.

Clothing Wanted

A couple in Canyon Lake regularly makes deliveries of food and clothing to the Riverside City Mission where the needs of the hungry and homeless are continuous. Donations can be dropped off at Coldwell Banker in the Towne Center, 31620 Railroad Canyon Rd.
