Women’s Golf Club hosts cancer awareness tournament


For the 18th year, the Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club held its annual breast cancer tournament for the purpose of spreading awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer and to raise funds for further research into the disease.

This year’s Pink on the Links Tournament benefited Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center that serves women in Canyon Lake and nearby cities.

The tournament was attended by 74 participants and raised $3,750 for breast cancer research.

The tournament winners are as follows:

Ladies Flight

1st place: Teresa Roberson, Kathy Sanchez, Linda. Kielty and Kathy Homewood.

2nd place: Barbara Weatherman, Joanna Spiller, Marlene Castro and Lou De Young.

3rd place: Bailey Barkley, Linda Johnson, Rose Marie Hand and Dianne Schneider

4th place: Maxine Whalen, Donna Nunes, Norma Yarbrough and Linda Helmer.

Men’s Flight

1st place: Roger Kielty, Don Raworth, Phil Coughlin and Dennis Franks

Mixed Flight

1st place: Dorothy and Joe Washle and Rich and Sandy Dawson

Jeannette Williams, Betty Brown and Tom Steinle won Closest to the Pin on various holes. The Closest to the Line winners are Marilyn Bridges and Steve McCain. Kathy Homewood and Joe Kamashian are the Circle Hole winners. Kathy Homewood won Best Decorated Cart and Dianne Schneider is the Tees in a Bottle winner.

The members of the club would like to thank the following for helping to make the tournament a success: Canyon Lake Lions Club, Canyon Lake Lioness Club, Canyon Lake Clipps Golf Group, Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club, Golf Pro Pat Kemball and assistant Bryan Carlson, Prestige Golf Cars, Canyon Golf Cars and Motorsports, Fallbrook Golf Course, Spring Valley Golf Course, Donna and Brian Cannon for donating an Aqua Lilly Pad for the grand prize, Mary Burns for donating a bike for the auction and the committee of Phyllis Weed, Darlene Crinion and Betty Henry

Tournament Chair Ura Furry said, “We appreciate the many individuals who were extremely generous in their donations, which we were able to fill over 30 baskets for our raffle. Canyon Lake is a wonderful community and we thank you all for making this day such a success.”
