Volunteer Spotlight: Sue Collins

Sue Collins moved to Canyon Lake from San Clemente, California, in 1999. She became an active volunteer in the community the following year. Sue is a member of the Woman’s Club, Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) Chapter WW and the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Equestrian Club, Jr. Women’s Club and Canyon Lake Community Theatre.

Sue was installed as the Woman’s Club president at its June meeting. She’s been a member of the club since 2008. She served on the club’s board for four years, produced the newsletter for two yearS, served as Membership Chair for two years, arranged the monthly lunch reservations for one year, served on the Inspiration and Scholarship Committees and, for several years, managed club’s website.

In 2016, Sue joined the Canyon Lake Chapter of PEO, a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women, educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, and loans and to motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations. She currently serves on the organization’s Yearbook Committee.

Sue was a member of the Canyon Lake Community Theatre from 2002 to 2014. She served on the club’s board for eight years, held the positions of Treasurer and Vice President of Administration, served on the Benefactor and Scholarship Committees and built and managed the club’s website. Sue acted in many plays and musicals over a ten-year span and produced and co-produced ten summer children’s plays.

Sue was a member of the Jr. Women’s Club from 2002 to 2009. She was named Junior Woman of the Year in 2005. She held the positions of Donation, Press and Storage, and served on the Holiday Boutique, Scholarships, Casino Night, Chili Cook-off, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Carnival, Junior Olympics and Progressive Dinners Committees.
From 2000 to 2003, Sue was a member of the Equestrian Club. In addition to serving on the Equestrian Committee for two years, she helped organize the club’s Play Days, annual Christmas Party and Kids Camp.
Sue, a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker, has been a member of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce for 14 years.
Sue said the volunteer work she found most rewarding was producing summer children’s plays for Canyon Lake Community Theatre and serving on various Scholarship Committees. “I love to see the kids progress from being very shy and timid to becoming self confident young adults.” she said. “My involvement with various Scholarship Committees has always been rewarding. I get to meet some fabulous young adults with aspiring goals for their future.”
