Fine Arts Guild invites community to ‘Hot August Night’

The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild is hosting a free concert, featuring a “Fleetwood Mac” tribute band, Saturday, August 5, at Holiday Harbor Park. Fine Arts Guild President Travis Montgomery said, “As the people of this community have supported the Guild events so well over the last 16 years, this is our way of giving back to Canyon Lake.”

The “Little Lies Band” will be performing at 8 p.m. (just after sunset) on the slope between the snack bar and the lake, where summer Movie Nights are held. Their performance will include songs from “Fleetwood Mac’s” vast array of hits, including “Rhiannon,” “Don’t Stop” and “Landslide.” Program Director Ron Martel said, “It’s not only great to host such a wonderful concert, but thrilled for clubs to join together to make this an exciting event.”

“Hot August Night” will begin on the upper level of the park with a pre-concert party at 4 p.m. Hosted by The Junior Woman’s Club (JWC) and The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club (CLFMC), these activities will expand the evening concert into a six-hour end-of-summer celebration. JWC President Alissa Rackstraw said, “We are thrilled to help our wonderful community close out the summer with fun, laughter and music.”

The afternoon kicks off with the Storm Mascot meeting and greeting kids and adults. A bounce house will be provided, along with games for the kids. Vendor booths will be set up to sell merchandise, including beer and wine. Food and beverages will be for sale at the snack bar, including hot dogs, pizza and chicken sandwiches. Snacks will include nachos, popcorn and cotton candy. “We are proud to help sponsor this community event and hope to see everyone out there,” said CLFMC Founder Shawna Bowen.

An oldies rock and country band will keep the pre-concert party hopping until the main act begins. The entire community is welcome to attend and no tickets are required. However, special seating will be available to the Fine Arts Guild’s patrons and sponsors, as well as those needing special assistance. Additional information on seating will be forthcoming.

The Guild is also pleased to introduce a new event concept for Canyon Lake. As the stage will be set up on the edge of the lake, boat owners are welcome to anchor and tie up in the water behind the stage. Concert attendees can enjoy “Fleetwood Mac” music in Canyon Lake style from their own boats.

Due to the number of attendees anticipated, parking in the adjacent lot will be restricted to golf carts and boat trailers and tow vehicles. A very limited number of handicapped auto spaces will be available. Plan to arrive early, as most parking will be on the neighborhood streets. The auxiliary parking lot at the end of Village Way Drive (off Loch Lomond) will be open and shuttles will be operating continuously throughout the evening.

With a large concert audience, umbrellas, canopies and blankets will not be allowed in the amphitheater area. For seating on the grass, attendees may each bring a beach towel or a low profile beach chair. To optimize viewing for all, standard profile chairs will not be allowed in the grassy area or anywhere it blocks the view on anyone seated on the lawn.
