Chamber announces Ball Drop, tournament winners

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce held its first annual Ball Drop and its annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 20, at the Canyon Lake Golf Course. To enter the Ball Drop, participants purchased golf ball numbers for $10 each.

The plan was to drop the golf balls over a cup on the practice range from a mechanical lift; however, the string on the bag malfunctioned and the chamber had to resort to Plan B. Plan B was to have Pro Shop staff member Bryan Carlson go up on the lift and drop the balls from a bucket.

Jill Torkelson, Carlos Ramirez and Alison Burrafato’s numbered golf balls landed in the cup, declaring them the winners. They won $273 each, which is half the pot of the Ball Drop sales split three ways.

Proceeds from this event will go towards the Canyon Lake Jr. Golf Program. The program was started in 1980 by Gabe Hrab. Gabe was an honored guest at the event.

In the golf tournament, the first place team of Casey Zolnier, Ted Kingston, Chris Valdez and Marcus Esposito shot 52, narrowly beating the second place team of Stan Gonzales, Jordan Ehrenkranz, Bob Causey and Jeff Hastings by one stroke.

The third place team, Greg Perry, Colin McCaffery, Brett Geer and Jason Jernigan, shot 55.

The first place Senior Flight team, San Theodora, Bruce Wallace, Terry Loy and Gary Sell, shot 59.

“The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce wishes to thank golf Pro Pat Kemball and his staff at the country club for their part in helping this event run smoothly, The Friday Flyer for its support prior to the event and the generous sponsors that helped make this event a success,” said the chamber’s Executive Director Alison Burrafato.
