Fiesta Day Best Dressed Float Contest deadline extended

Canyon Lake will celebrate its 44th annual Fiesta Day on Saturday, May 27. This year’s theme is “Stars, Stripes and Fiesta,” a tribute honoring all who serve the nation. This iconic, fun-filled day begins with a parade down Canyon Lake Dr. to the lodge.

New this year is a “Best Dressed Float” Contest. A $100 prize will be awarded to the winner. The contest is open to all residents, clubs, businesses, organizations, churches and schools who wish to participate.

All participants are required to fill out an application and sign a waiver form. The application deadline has been extended to May 24. Applications must be submitted to the POA Activities Department by the deadline date to qualify for the prize money. Parade Director Lyne Hall said, “Those who are already signed up to participate in the parade with a float should signup for the contest, you could win $100 for your club.”

Golf carts and closed vehicles are will not be considered floats; however, golf carts and trucks pulling trailers will be considered floats.

Floats will be judged based on creativeness and originality of the float design. Judging will take place before the parade. The winner will be announced in the morning during the Opening Ceremonies at the lodge and again at 3 p.m.

Floats must be decorated for a family atmosphere and constructed in a safe manner. Entries must be able to travel the entire parade route, approximately one mile, have brakes and steering and be able to make the final turn at the tennis court restrooms.

Participants riding on the float must be secured and safe. Hand holds or belt straps are encouraged. Items thrown from the float should only be thrown from the sides of the float, not the back or the front. The driver is prohibited from throwing any items as they should be focused on the road.

Participants are not allowed to jump on and off the float while the parade is in progress.

All float designs are subject to approval by the Fiesta Day Committee. Political signs, “For Sale” signs and inappropriate or indecent displays are strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with the parade rules will result in removal from the parade/contest and exempt from participating in future Fiesta Day parades. Float participants ride floats at their own risk and are responsible to follow all safety recommendations.

Parade line up begins at 7 a.m. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. For more information, call 951-244-6841, ext. 610.
