Canyon Lake Middle School competition cheer team ends season as champions

The Canyon Lake Middle School (CLMS) competition cheer team competed at their last competition of the season on April 29.  The team entered seven cheer routines and walked away with two division championships, five first places and a second and third place.

Canyon Lake resident and cheer captain Emma Lewis took first place in her solo and also won the Cheer Solo division. Emma, Daysia Kee and Jaylin Gordon placed first in the Cheer Trio category.

The team also walked away with several awards in the specialty categories. “We entered three stunt groups into the competition and they placed first, second and third,” said the team’s coach Tammy Howard. The teams stunt group place second in the stunt off.

In the Tumbling category, Canyon Laker Ryn Andersen placed first, Canyon Laker Rebe Andersen placed second and Kaley Pelton placed third. Kaley also placed first in the Jumps category.

The team’s crowd-leading routines earned first, but Tammy said the highlight of the competition was the team winning first in the Medium Jr. Cheer divisions and then taking the title of the overall Jr. Cheer Champions out of seven teams.

The competition was held at Hemet High School and hosted by Sharp International. Tammy said, “Sharp competitions are always fun events for us and gives us one more opportunity to perform and compete.”

Tammy is extremely proud of her team. “People don’t realize how much time, effort and commitment goes into the competition team. This group worked hard all year practicing and it showed at their competitions,” she said.

“We had an incredible competition season.”
