Here’s what’s happening in May at the Library

People who say “I’m not good with computers” can find help at the Canyon Lake Library on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. At this time a volunteer is available to assist on the computers.  It does not matter if the need is to type a letter, attach to an email, search or complete a job application on the internet.  There is help available.

Sing with the Birdies is the theme for Miss Ginny’s Story Time on Friday, May 5, at 11:30. The story time developed for preschool age children will have children rockin’ with robins as they dance and sing their way to fun.  Story Time also includes a craft children make and take home.

Toddler Story Time is for children age three and under. The class meets every Monday at 11 a.m. The class will be about chickens on Monday, May 8. Children will have fun with stories and a craft without knowing they are learning pre-literacy and social skills in the process.

The Canyon Lake Libraries tutoring program meets from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays. This program provides assistance to K-8 children in mathematics and other school subjects. The tutors are accomplished high school students who earn volunteer credit for their teaching. Students attending for assistance should bring whatever is necessary to communicate the work and the problem they need help with. This might include a text book, a list of problems or some other way to demonstrate where help is needed.

Teens studying for the Scholastic Aptitude Test can find help and support at the library on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Teens meet to discuss, understand and improve their knowledge of the material and testing.

There will be no Family Movie program on Monday, May 29. The library will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

From May 7 to 10, the Riverside County Library System will be working with the computer support data in the catalog system.  Starting on 5:30 on Sunday, May 7, patrons will not be able to access library services such as reviewing their accounts, pay fines or fees, renew items, check out digital books, or search databases.  Full library services should return on Thursday, May 11.

Items in the library can be checked out and returned.  Computer use of MS Office programs, printing, and public internet are not effected by the catalog system maintenance.  The service restrictions will effect the entire Riverside County Library System.  To prevent any renewal difficulties item due dates were assigned beyond this period.  People with due dates before May 7 who want to renew will want to renew the items prior to May 7.

Renewals on renewable items can be done by phone, internet, in person with the card or with the items at any cooperative library.  It does not have to be the one it was checked out from.  Any questions can be directed to the Canyon Lake Library staff or any Riverside County Library System branch library.
