Gilbert Salazar

Gilbert Salazar, 89, resident of Canyon Lake from 1988 to 2012, passed away on April 12 in Boise, ID with his bride Joan at his side. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Gil graduated from Loyola High School and attended Loyola University.

Gil married the love of his life, Joan Brennan—whom he met at 17, wed at 20 and was blessed to have shared 69 years of marriage with. Gil and Joan raised eight children, five girls and three boys.

He was proud ‘Papa’ to 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Gil so loved his family that he was ever-mindful of their well-being until his last day.

As an aerospace electrical engineer, Gil spent his career at McDonnell Douglas—having worked in space, missiles and aircraft on projects ranging from the later Apollo missions, Sky Lab, numerous missile programs and finally the C-17.

Gil was also a man of many talents who in his youth trained as a classical musician, pilot and paratrooper and throughout his life pursued many hobbies, including golf, computers, re-building Porsches, riding dirt bikes, photography, woodworking and others.

Gil loved Canyon Lake and had many good friends that he met here over his years as an active golfer, publisher of the monthly golf bulletin and member of the Travel Club and numerous others.

Gil was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Cheryl Salazar Ramin.
