Fifth annual National Day of Prayer to be held May 4

Residents are invited to come together to pray for their community, state and nation as Canyon Lake celebrates its fifth annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 4, at 10 a.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. Members of the local fire departments, police departments and the Department of Homeland Security will be honored guests.
Tickets cost $10 and includes a continental breakfast consisting of pastries, fruit, orange juice and coffee. Prayers, music and testimonies will follow breakfast.

Lane McKellar will serve as emcee. Prayers will be led by Dave Dick of Canyon Lake Community Church, Casey Crawford of Elevation Church, Chris Suitt of New Hope Community Church, Thor Ramsay of Center Church, Buzzi Enniss of Lamb’s Fellowship, Steve Epstein of the Torah Club and Sherry Reiter of the Torah Club.

Mollee Dick of Canyon Lake Community Church will sing the National Anthem accompanied by Marvin Webster. The Air Force Jr. ROTC from Elsinore High School under the direction of Major Charles Ruhl will present the Color Guard.

Members of the military will be honored as well as those who protect and serve.

Scheduled speakers are Cynthia Ross and Allen Vaughan. Cynthia, of “In His Presence Ministry” in Lake Elsinore, had a prison ministry for 17 years with her husband Myles Ross. Her current work is with the homeless. She also will sing one of her signature praise hymns. Lt. Commander Allen Vaughan, military chaplain at MARB, served as a missionary in the Philippines and in Washington, D.C., prior to entering the Navy. After serving as a pastor in churches in Missouri, he received his active duty commission as a Lt. Jr. Grade in the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps.

Twelve-year-old Kylene Evans will play patriotic music on the harp. Kylene’s sister Kaitlyn will lead a prayer for the children. Other music will be provided by Mike Shroyer of Good Times Entertainment.

Sponsors of this event include the Canyon Lake Lioness Club and Canyon Lake Bible Club.

The National Day of Payer has been celebrated in the United States since 1952, by joint resolution of Congress and President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, President Reagan designated the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer.
