Fiesta Day Committee announces Grand Marshals

The 2017 Fiesta Day Committee announced that Nancy Carroll and Al Van Beenen have been selected to serve as this year’s Fiesta Day Grand Marshals. Nancy and Al are integral parts of the community and have volunteered countless hours serving community groups and helping residents.

Nancy Carroll is involved in many volunteer activities in the community. She is a member of the Lioness Club but is most noted for serving 27 years as the president of the Canyon Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee (CLEPC). In October 2016, the City honored Nancy and present her with a special recognition plaque for her work on the committee.

In addition to her years of service on the CLEPC, Nancy has coordinated emergency services for Canyon Lake during floods and catastrophes, and teaches free Hands Only CPR classes to Canyon Lake residents.

A resident since 1989, Nancy was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 2011. She is a member of the Canyon Lake Lioness Club and a volunteer at the first aid booths at various City and POA events.

Al has been a Canyon Lake resident since 1975. He is very active in the Ski Club and has volunteered countless hours serving the club and its events. He served as the club’s president for 10 years. For 25 years, Al has been serving as “Santa” for the club’s annual community-wide Breakfast with Santa event. He puts on the Safety Clinics for the club and volunteers as a boat driver for both the annual Learn to Ski Day and Polar Bear Day events.

In 2011 and 2014, the Ski Club presented Al with the Ray Novak Perpetual Award. This award is presented to a member who is voted as the most actively valuable member during the year, both on and off the water, by other Ski Club members.

In 2010, the Chamber presented Al with a “Volunteer of the Year” award.

The 44th annual Fiesta Day is planned for Saturday, May 27, when thousands of spectators will line the streets to watch the traditional Fiesta Day Parade. Following the parade will be entertainment and activities on the grounds of the Lodge.

Fiesta Day draws approximately 5,000 people annual and is considered the “granddaddy” of all Canyon Lake events.
