Save the date for Veterans Day celebration

Residents are reminded to save the date for the 8th annual Veterans Day Celebration in the Towne Center on November 11. The Warbirds West plans will fly over the Towne Center at 10:15 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Chuck Casey, a former nuclear electrician in the Navy and an active volunteer in the community, will serve as master of ceremonies. Resident DJ Mike Shroyer of Good Times Entertainment will provide the sound system and patriotic music. The Canyon Lake Choraleers will sing the National Anthem and the service anthems of each military branch. The Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts also will be participating again this year.

One rose for each Canyon Lake veteran who passed away this year will be placed in the urn next to the monument along with an extra rose for the unknown veterans. A floral wreath also will be placed at the monument, which will remain there for a week.

There will be a raffle for veterans only, no charge, for a chance to win a “Quilt of Valor.” Coldwell Banker will be supplying free hotdogs immediately following the ceremony.

The “Field of Honor” will rise on Saturday, November 5, when 200 flags will be placed in the Veterans Memorial Park in the Towne Center.

It is a tradition of the Veterans Day Committee to deliver a flag to every veteran and active duty service person who is registered with the City. Committee members and several community volunteers will begin delivering the flags next weekend.
