Letter: North Gate Trash

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

Several years ago, in honor of Earth Day, I took it upon myself to get the trash, wrecked furniture, building debris and thrown-out-the-window litter cleaned up from Greenwald Rd. It cost quite a bit of money as well as much effort of persuasion to get help from other people.

I was happily surprised when Mayor Ehrenkranz awarded me a Proclamation of Appreciation for my efforts. That, of course, inspired me to try to get my partner Ray, friends and relatives to continue helping to keep our North Gate entry road beautiful. Short story: Ray died.

My new partner John, with whom I recently connected at our 65th high school reunion, was willing to take up the crusade. He connected me with Lake Elsinore Councilman Bob McGee, who not only gets the big trash cleaned up, but he was wise enough to install a dirt barrier at the most dumped area.

Well, I have presented to the POA a request to install a trash container at the outgoing North Gate at my expense. I rechecked with the POA when I did not get a promised response. I was promised again, then ignored.

You can see why I have mixed feelings about Canyon Lake getting disincorporated. It seems like Lake Elsinore might take better care of us than we do of ourselves. I will, however, vote for Mr. Ehrenkranz.
