CL Library invites families to Halloween activities Halloween

Halloween costumes are welcome at Miss Ginny’s Preschool Craft and Story Time today, October 21, at 11:30 a.m. The pre-Halloween activity will include stories, songs and a craft developmentally appropriate for ages 3-5. The program is free and all materials are provided.

The Canyon Lake Library has a special friend visiting for Halloween. Pumpkin Bear came to the Library needing a new home. He will be visiting with the children until Friday, October 28, when a ticket will be drawn to determine his new home. Tickets are earned by visiting the Library; one ticket for each visit. Three winning tickets will be drawn, one each for bottles of candy and the last one for Pumpkin Bear’s new home.

“Goonies” will be this month’s family move at the Library on Monday, October 24, at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Popcorn will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library.

Toddler Story Time meets at the Library every Monday, including Halloween, at 11 a.m. Costumes are welcome at the Library all day on Halloween and particularly for story time. Mrs. Blackford engages the children with stories, songs and other activities appropriate for toddlers ages 3 and under. Although babies may not be able to participate in the songs and movement, hearing the stories and songs, experiencing the socialization and generally being engaged to their capabilities has lasting benefits.

Teen activities are on Fridays at 4:30. Teens wishing to assist with the Library collection, programs and other offerings are welcome to become a member of the Teen Advisory Board. The Board meets once a month on Friday to offer author suggestions, assist in developing programs and provide other insights to help the Library serve teens in the community. The October meeting is on Friday, October 28, at 4:30 p.m.

Saturdays are Roots to Grow Tutoring and S.A.T. preparation. This activity runs from 10 to 11 a.m. For one hour, students can receive help with school classes or preparation for taking the S.A.T. for college. The Roots to Grow tutoring and S.A.T. preparation program will take a hiatus after October. It will resume January 14, 2017.

Free online practice tests for teens and adults needing to pass the DMV driving test are available at the Library.

The Library offers free books, large print books, free internet access, reading programs, book clubs and more. All programs at the Canyon Lake Library are free to the public and do not require library membership. Membership is required to check out materials and to use many of the internet programs available from home.
