Letter: Lake Lease Response

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

Regarding Dawn Haggerty’s letter in response to my letter. I appreciate her validation of the data and facts in my letter, and helping others multiply by 365. What I don’t understand is why she believes an increase of 4.16 cents/year (25 cents at the end of six years) is not a minimal increase. After all, the Water District owns the lake and deserves fair compensation from those that use the property. The cost we are projected to pay in 2022 ($394.20 per property owner) is a bargain.

For comparison, if a family of four went fishing at Lake Skinner just one day a month (12 days total), it would cost the family $568 per year. In addition to fishing, we can boat, swim, water ski and keep boats on the water 24/7 in Canyon Lake.

There is no other reservoir in all of Southern California that allows these things. As a result, our property values are increased significantly. However, that is changing because our POA Directors and others who supported the withholding rent payment and filing lawsuits against our landlord, continue to harass the Water District.

We will pay big time when the next lease comes due if they don’t stop doing this. Complaining about a formula and contract, approved by a prior Board, and complaining about EVMWD spending money on a pamphlet is rather petty considering the POA Directors spent over $600,000 in an unsuccessful challenge of the contract.

I say again to the POA Directors, please stop. You are causing our community to lose millions of dollars in  property equity.
