Sixteen ladies compete in pickleball tournament

Sixteen Canyon Lake women participated in a double elimination pickleball tournament on Thursday, June 9 at the Tennis Center.

Jeannette Williams, who brought pickleball to Canyon Lake in January says, for most of the ladies, it was their first ever pickleball tournament. It was organized and run by Terry Loy. Also helping with the tournament by officiating were Gary Sell, Bruce Yarbrough, Bruce Wallace, Chuck Newsom and Joe Kamashian.

Winning the gold medal was the team of Inga Loy and Cathy Buell. Winning the silver were Barbara Lewis and Kristey Bucky; winning bronze were Beverly Willard and Lesa Gallager.

Other participants were the teams of Jenny Elliot and Char Mirich, Laurie Hieter and Nancy Tice, Anita Fairfield and Ellie Clow, Melody Clark and Sandy Kan, and Devlin Fillmore and Gyan Barringham.

On another note, Gary Sell and Terry Loy won silver medals in a recent men’s doubles tournament in Palm Springs.
