9ers Golf Club hosts Spring Scholarship Tournament

In February, Canyon Lake student golfers were invited to apply for a scholarship offered by the 9ers Golf Club. Students were required to fill out an application, including an essay on “Lessons I Have Learned from Golf.” They had to submit two letters of recommendation, transcripts verifying their GPA of 3.0 or better, and a letter of acceptance to the college/university they plan to attend.

April 21st was a special day as the 9ers hosted players from the Women’s, Men’s and Family Golf Clubs to raise funds for that worthy student. This was the inaugural Spring Scholarship Tournament.

More than 60 players enjoyed a social game of Scramble Golf, greatly exceeding the financial expectations of organizers. Donations by many Canyon Lake individuals and businesses helped.

A big thank you to Berkshire Hathaway, California Styles Spa, Canyon Lake Florist, Kielty Realty, Raised Donuts, Sports Clips (Grape Street), Starbucks (Grape Street), Team West Contracting and Wolfees, who donated a variety of gifts and gift cards. Numerous other individuals and businesses were also generous contributors through gifts and the purchase of Tee Signs.

Winners of the tournament were:

1st Place (above): Lois and Dave Smedstad (not pictured) and Sandy and Rich Dawson;

2nd Place: Margie Villaluz, Jeff and Karen and Jeff Reams;

3rd Place: Kathy and Bob Sanchez and Rose and Steve Girard.

4th Place: Linda and Roger Kielty and Diane and Mark Faris.

Ladies who would like to play with the 9ers Golf Club are invited to contact Linda Kielty, 951-746-2250. All levels are welcome. The club meets each Thursday, at 9:30 a.m., in the Magnolia Room at the Country Club. They tee off at 10.
