Ray Chenette Golf Tourney

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Ray Chenette Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, at the Canyon Lake Country Club. It will be a Las Vegas Scramble. Check-in begins at 10 a.m., with shotgun start at noon. This tournament is an important fundraiser for the Chamber in its efforts to support Junior Golf and the community throughout the year.

‘Diamonds in the Rough’ Tournament

The Women’s Golf Club is hosting its annual Member/Guest Golf Tournament, “Diamonds in the Rough,” on May 13. Members of the Canyon Lake 9ers, Family Golf or any lady with an established handicap is encouraged to participate and will be paired with one of the 18-hole golfers. The entry fee is $80, which includes a light breakfast, lunch, gross and net prizes, and an “amazing tee prize.”

Doe’s Derby Tournament

The 29th  annual Doe’s Derby Tournament, which is sponsored by CLIPPS, will be held on Tuesday, May 24, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start during the regular Tuesday play day. The tournament is no longer a senior tournament with an age restriction; it is now open to all Canyon Lake women who have an established golf handicap.

Participants can sign up in the Pro Shop as a single, twosome or foursome.  The tournament fee of $35 per person includes lunch and awards at the Country Club following play. Both gross and net awards will be given in each flight as well as the over-the-field net award.

Organizers invite members of the Women’s Golf Club, Family Golf Club and the 9ers Golf Club, as well as any other Canyon Lake women who have an established handicap, to participate. For more information, contact Barbara Albrecht at 951-244-4268 or Joanna Spiller at 951-244-1553.

After Lunch Bunch

Twenty-four players showed up for last week’s After Lunch Bunch Game, Four Man Tin Whistle. The results were as follows:

1st: Darrell Hartzell, Roger Kielty, Jim Paulis and Don McClanahan, 89

2nd: Jeff Roach, Jim Musser, Pete Mortensen and Sven Henrichsen, 82

3rd: Bob Stinson, Fran Pothier, Bill Levis and Brian Helmer, 80

Skins winners were Joe Strong, Darrell Hartzell, Bob Stinson and Roger Kielty. Next week’s game will be Partners Best Ball; players may pick their own foursome.

The After Lunch Bunch is a weekly Friday game for any male golfer with a handicap. Tee-off is around 10 a.m. Sign up between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. in the Magnolia Room, or by phone at 249-4565 or 237-6102. The entry fee is $5; there is an optional skins game for an additional $5.

Family Golf Club

Membership in the Family Golf Club is open to all golfers – men, women and youths. The club’s official golf day is Wednesday, at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The Family Golf Club is a member of the SCGA. It holds open meetings the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the Country Club. For membership information/application, contact Kevin O’Leary at 951-818-3361. For general information, contact Tom Ward at 714-309-6923.
