Library will be closed Monday for holiday

The Canyon Lake Library and Riverside County Library System have a new tool for those whose New Year’s resolution is to learn a new language or to learn English better. The program, “Pronunciator,” is available to Library card holders as part of the e-Resources library services on the www.rivlib.net website.

English speakers have up to 80 languages to choose from. People speaking a language other than English have 50 languages to choose as a base language to learn English. The program requires an account be established for the individual to keep track of their progress.

The service is available for use on the internet or at the Library. Access the www.rivlib.net website, choose “Learn a Language” from the tabs, choose Pronunciator, and enter the information required to establish the class account.  Mango Languages also is available, making two choices for language learning, free with a Library card.

New teen and youth programs are beginning in 2016. On January 8, the Library hosted the first teen book club, “The Perks of Being in a Book Club.” The teen-run club’s next meeting will be on Friday, January 22, at 4 p.m.

A youth public speaking program will begin Monday, February 8, at 4 p.m. This program is in association with Canyon Lake Toastmasters and will be open to youth who wish to become more comfortable speaking in public or to improve their communication and public presentation skills. Organizers say the need to be able to organize thoughts for a convincing presentation is useful throughout life for interviews, scholarships, college and professional evaluations and those times when it is important to convince others of one’s position.

Miss Ginny’s Preschool Craft and Story Time will not meet on January 15. She will be back on January 29, at 11:30 a.m. with stories and activities about dinosaurs.

On Monday, January 18, the Canyon Lake Library will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Toddler Story Time and Spanish Time programs will not meet. The Toddler Story Time will be back on January 25 at 11 a.m.

The next Family Movie Night will be January 25 at 4 p.m., featuring “Minions.” Movie and popcorn are free.

The Canyon Lake Library is located inside the City Hall building. It’s open Mondays, 10 to 7, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 to 6, and Saturdays 10 to 3. It’s closed Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System (www.rivlib.net) honoring cards and returns from other affiliated libraries. It has a Facebook page. For more information, call 951-244-9181.
