Memories are made at 2015 “Parade of Lights”

Organizers (and the crowds of spectators at waterfront homes and parks) agreed that last Saturday was a perfect night for the Parade of Lights boat parade. “It was an exciting evening for all who participated,” says Yacht Club Parade of Lights Chair Bob Templeton. Nineteen boats were registered for judging, while several other boats joined in at the last minute.

The check-in starting boat was captained by Jim Lange and his crew of Tammy Revard and Jane Lafferty. It was their first time doing that task and they did an “excellent Job,” according to Bob.

The Yacht Club’s fire-breathing 60-foot Green Dragon led the parade around the lake, piloted by the crew of Pete Delia, Lee Norris, Mike Lee, Jim Lafferty, Steve Evarts, Don Wedehase and Santa Claus.

The judging team was led by John Petersen and included Steve Prince, Kathy Barbay, Jan May, Sally Wedehase, Cathy and Al Barr and Candy Petersen. The judges station was at the Skipper’s Way home of Carl and Nancy Duplan.

The parade ended at Holiday Harbor where a team led by Ila Goldstein welcomed the parade participants. Peggy Clark and her granddaughter served refreshments, while Santa talked to children at the park. Larry Garland and Jim Lafferty presented the awards to the winners.

Bob would like to thank those who participated in the parade as well as those who watched from their homes, beaches and parks for their support and their “great Christmas spirit.”

He adds special thanks to the POA and Travel Club for their generosity and support, the Lodge for furnishing the chocolate chip cookies, hot chocolate, coffee and supplies, Marine Patrol for keeping the waterways safe, Operations for their support and Sharon Rice and The Friday Flyer for publicity.
