Local groups donate food and money for HOPE

On November 19, the City of Canyon Lake held a Turkey and Food Drive to help the Lake Elsinore food bank, HOPE (Helping Our People in Elsinore), provide holiday meals to area families in need, including a number of families in Canyon Lake. About 100 frozen turkeys and bags with food items for a holiday meal were received.

HOPE has been serving the Lake Elsinore area since 1992, offering food, hygiene products, toys and some clothes to those who qualify. It also works with other governmental and outreach assistance programs.

Under the direction of Steve Falk, HOPE recently moved to a larger facility at 506 W. Minthorn St. in Lake Elsinore.

According to Sally Smith of the IPSSA (Independent Pool and Spa Service Association), soon after switching locations, the food bank suffered an unexpected loss of about 25 percent of its inventory. Local businesses, groups and individuals have been trying to make up the loss and help HOPE stay on track with its regular distribution as well as holiday meals distribution.

On October 22, members of the IPSSA Menifee Valley Chapter presented a $300 donation to HOPE.

Those who would like to drop off a donation or volunteer at HOPE may do so on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to noon. Items accepted include canned and non-perishable packaged food, hygiene products, toys and clothes.
