David Pinard wins tennis national championship tennis

A50-David-Pinard-uncropped-on-leftCanyon Lake tennis player David Pinard is a member of a mixed tennis team based in Upland that recently captured the national championship title at the USTA Mixed 18 & Over 9.0 League National Championships in Tucson, Arizona.

The Upland team defeated a team from Kansas City, Missouri, 2-1 in the championship match.

Earlier in the day, the Upland team defeated a team from Washington, D.C., 3-0 in the semifinals. The team plays at the Upland Tennis Club.

In addition to David, team members include Stephanie Thomas of Colton, Davina Hsu of Montebello, Tai Sisson of San Dimas, Angeline Stecia of Las Vegas, Connie Burggraf of Orange, Skye Scheer of Redlands, Denise Sokoloski of Alta Loma, Ephraim Pasco of Colton, Kevin Griffin of Manhattan Beach and Ian De Guzman of Los Angeles.

Established in 1980, the USTA League has grown to more than 865,000 players across the country, making it the largest recreational tennis league in the world. It offers five age categories: Adult 18 & Over, Adult 40 & Over, Adult 55 & Over, Mixed 18 & Over and Mixed 40 & Over.
