Every year the Canyon Lake Ski Club sends skiers to the Western Regional Water Ski Championships, and often on to the USA Water Ski Nationals. This year is no exception.

At Regionals, held on Warman Lake in Vancouver, Washington, Carol Brooks skied all three events in Women 5 division: Slalom, Trick and Jump. She won all three events and, by so doing, won the gold in the Overall category.

In Slalom, Carol skied two buoys at 35 off of the 75-foot ski line; in Trick, she earned 2,480 points; and in Jump, she jumped 56 feet over a five-foot ramp.

Carol’s husband Jim also skied into 35 off to keep pressure on Carol, so they both earned a trip to the USA Water Ski Nationals in West Palm Beach, Florida. At Nationals, Carol won 1st in Slalom, skiing five buoys at 35 off; she took 5th in Trick with a score of 1,750; and earned 3rd in Jump at 57 feet. These accomplishments earned Carol the 3rd place bronze in Overall.

Other female skiers representing Canyon Lake at Regionals were Linda Hockenbery, Sabrina Bargar and Kendra Nathan. Kendra is new to the Girls 2 division, ages 9-12, where she placed 3rd in Slalom, 6th in Trick and 3rd in Jump, which put her in 2nd place Overall.

The Canyon Lake men competed in five divisions. Men aged 18-24 had Steven Brooks placing 4th in tricks; and Ryan Fitzpatrick, entering all events, taking 3rd in Jump with a distance of 114 feet.

Other men representing Canyon Lake were Rick Jacob, Tom Nathan, Kevin Hyatt and Ed Terwilliger. Kevin was awarded 4th in Trick, 4th in Jump and 3rd Overall.

Canyon Lake has one Master Men division skier: Scott Larson, who placed 2nd in Slalom by skiing five buoys at 39.5 off.

The first Canyon Lake Ski Club tournament for the 2016 season is scheduled for September 19 and 20 at the North Causeway. The tournament is sanctioned by USA Water Ski and all three events will be offered.
