Canyon Lakers have been gathering together at the Lodge on Summer Tuesdays since 1990. To put it in perspective, The Friday Flyer asked residents what they were doing during the Summer, 25 years ago, when Taco Tuesdays first began! Here are a few answers & the photos by Donna Kupke
Jennifer Grano said she was 5 years old and spent that summer “riding horses and swimming in our above-ground pool.” Jason and Shannon Cox, with their children Matthew and Elisa, are visiting Jennifer from Northern California and say they love Canyon Lake and look forward to visiting every summer!
Bill Johnson says, “I was here (at Taco Tuesday)!” He adds that he’s lived in Canyon Lake for 31 years. Sandi and John Lawson say they were just starting their family. “Our oldest daughter was 1 year old, and now she’s getting ready to get married!” Their other daughter, Shelby, says she wasn’t even born when Taco Tuesdays began!
Alicia Ferkovich says she spent summer vacation (from school) in Huntington Beach. Shelly Battaglai says she also was on summer break from high school, and probably at her family’s condo in Havasu.
Kristen Ruppert was only 5 years old and says, at that time her family used to go camping at Mt. Baldy every summer. Gari Hewitt says she would have been babysitting.
ake Canada laughs and says he “was marinating in the womb!” He was born in March 1991. Kevin Bosch notes, “I was born that summer!” His birthday is July 24, 1990.
Tony and Sonia Fiorentino said that, in 1990, they owned an Italian restaurant and had a 2-year-old daughter. “That summer we were boating in Lake Mead.”
Taco Tuesday is ongoing at the Lodge and Sunset Beach every Tuesday, 5 to 8:30 p.m., until September 1. Each week features entertainment, vendor booths, kid zone, snack shack and food and drink specials from the Lighthouse Restaurant and Bar.
