Ahoy mermaids, pirates and wenches! Vendors and clubs who have an interest in making a little money and being involved in a fun community event are invited to the Mermaid Festival, scheduled for Saturday, August 22, at Indian Beach.

Spokesperson Lyne Hall says organizers are looking for food vendors as well as vendors who specialize in beach or nautical merchandise, especially with a mermaid or pirate angle. Vendors or clubs who can do face painting and hair braiding also are sought.

Food vendor booths are $50. Other vendors are $25 and will be asked to contribute an item to an opportunity drawing. Lyne says, “We are asking vendors to decorate their booths in a mermaid theme if they would like and we will be running a best-dressed booth competition.

Entertainment at the Mermaid Festival will be provided by Aprile McKinnon. Other entertainers are welcome. Because the festival is a fundraiser, entertainers will not be paid; however, they will be able to put out a collection box.

Activities will include a Mermaid Grotto, competitions, games and crafts for the children. Look for an appearance by two rival “Pirates of the Lake,” otherwise known as the Canyon Lake Yacht Club. Everyone is invited to come in mermaid or pirate-inspired garb.
