Graduating 8th graders at Canyon Lake Middle school got a magical “Welcome to the Enchanted Forest” during their 8th grade dance on May 29, when the multi-purpose room at the school was transformed into a forest of trees, tree branches, stumps and special lighting.

Spokesperson Michelle Olszewski says the CLMS Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) organized the event as a farewell to the outgoing class. Thanks to Canyon Lake Landscaping and Tree Service and generous gardeners, tree cutting companies and homeowners throughout Canyon Lake who allowed the PTSA to collect branches, tree trimmings and stumps from their yards, the organizers were able to transform the multi-purpose room into a beautiful lifelike forest.

“You might have been unaware why random ladies were stopping to ask for the piles you intended to take to the dump, but rest assure it was put to good use,” she says.

Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment provided the music. Mike Norkin of Cherished Memories Photography provided the photo booth and took pictures, and Sarah Dowler of Dowler Event Décor provided the large, lighted manzanita trees and centerpiece trees.

The PTSA thanks Principal Preston Perez, his assistant, Dawn Hernandez, and other staff at CLMS for their support with the dance, and all the parents who donated time and food.

Michelle says it was a bittersweet night for the students as many of them will be going to different schools for high school; so among the laughter and dancing, there were some tears as well. She adds, “Thank you to everyone for making this event a success.”
