Blake Echt

The Friday Flyer’s teen columnist, Blake Echt, graduated near the top of his Class of 2015 and was named Temescal Canyon High School’s male Student of the Year. He was named Student of the Month in February. Blake is the son of Jordan Echt and Carmen Elias, and has two sisters who live in Iowa.

He was on Honor Roll all four years of high school. He graduated with a 4.27 cumulative GPA and received honor cords (to wear at graduation) in Language, Social Science and CTE (Career and Technical Education). He also wore stoles for completing Temescal Canyon High School’s rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) Program and for five active semesters in the California Scholastic Federation.

Teachers chose Blake for Department Awards (best in class) in English, History, Physics, Environmental Science, Design Technology and Theory of Knowledge. He received the Bi-literacy Award for taking four years of English and Spanish and taking college-level assessments in both.

He also received an award for most community service, with 426 total service hours. Blake earned hours for tutoring at Ortega High School in 2011; for volunteering at the Canyon Lake Library (organizing books, creating book displays, helping with book sales and with set-up and clean-up of events) from 2011 to 2015; and volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club in 2013-14.

He stayed after school to tutor freshmen and sophomores in Biology in 2014-15; was a Link Crew leader to help incoming freshmen acclimate to high school in 2014-15; helped with logistics at the Relay for Life; and was involved in a Park Enhancement Project for the City of Wildomar in which he volunteered his time in planning, organizing and rehabilitating a park with members of his IB class.

Most Canyon Lakers know Blake best for the columns he has written for The Friday Flyer every other week since June 2013.

Blake has been accepted at UC Irvine, where he plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.
