Kids invited to audition for ‘Flower Power’ Monday

Auditions for Canyon Lake Community Theatre’s all-kids production of “Flower Power” will be on Monday, June 8, in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. Kindergarten through 8th grade are welcome. Kids K through 2nd grade are scheduled to audition from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. All other grades will audition from 6:30 to 9. Bring a photograph.

“No experience is necessary. Everyone is guaranteed to get a groovy part in the show,” says Director Ilene Moore. She is looking for “a cast of thousands” to perform this innovative theater piece with its many singing, dancing and speaking roles.

Show CDs are available for $3. A CLCT membership fee of $15 is required for one adult and one child under the age of 18. Additional children are $10.

Those who desire to audition for a special role should prepare a one-minute, upbeat karaoke-style song with CD accompaniment (no vocals and no rap). Musical theater or ‘60s music is preferred.

Show dates are July 31 and August 1 and 2.

Here is a brief synopsis of the musical: Starpetal, Moonbeam and Sunflower – the all-girl band, Flower Power – are in a school battle of the bands. They really want to go up against the boys’ band — Peter, Paul and Harry — and they finally make it happen at Ol’ MacDonald’s Farm.

Hippie Shreddy Freddy, the mystic Maharishi, Bruiser and his bikers, and Max King, the famous record promoter, all get drawn into the excitement that becomes the Cornstalk Music Festival. Though it begins with the two school bands, it’s The Kooks, a top British rock group, that really sparks the festivities.

Everything goes wild when the crazy bikers invade the event; but Big Mama knows how to tame them and calm the crowd. Lighting effects, a psychedelic backdrop, silly face makeup, groovy clothing and a Sixties rock beat all contribute to make this an unforgettable musical!
