Flipping Out

Hydrofoiling seems to be as fun to watch as it is to do, as seen in this photo taken by Mike Clary at last Sunday’s ShowCal Skiers Ski Show. The first “ski” hydrofoil was invented in the 1960s. But it wasn’t until Canyon Laker Mike Murphy and friend/partner Bob Woolley invented the modern-day sit-down hydrofoil in the late 1980s that the sport really took off. Today it’s not unusual, especially on Canyon Lake, to see a hydrofoiler jumping, flipping or gliding across the lake. More pictures of the ShowCal Skiers Ski Show and the Fiesta Day Ski Show can be found in the A-section and at fridayflyer.com.

Note: The Friday Flyer took and received hundreds of photos of Fiesta Day. There has been room for only a fraction of them in the printed issue, but readers are invited to see many more at www.fridayflyer.com
