What’s happening with the fire contract?

A rumor has begun circulating that Fire Station 60 is going to close when the City of Canyon Lake’s fire contract with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire is up at the end of June. City Manager Ariel Hall says she expects an update on the fire contract will be provided at the May 6 City Council meeting.

“As we stated at the last City Council meeting, the City is meeting with the County to look into continuing fire services for our residents at a cost acceptable to both agencies while we continue to explore ways to permanently reduce costs and/or realign services. We are continuing to communicate and meet with the County and will provide an update to the community as soon as more concrete information is available,” Ariel says.

The agenda for the May 6 City Council meeting will be available the Thursday before the meeting at cityofcanyonlake.com. Meetings are televised live at Time Warner Channel 29 and Verizon Channel 39.

Any person wishing to address the City Council at its monthly meeting on any matter within the jurisdiction of the City, whether or not it appears on the monthly agenda, is asked to complete a “Speaker Request Form” available on the back counter.
