Evarts’ 1923 Ford T-Bucket is Car of the Month

The Canyon Lake Car Club congratulates Steve and Joanie Evarts for having their 1923 Ford T-Bucket chosen as February Car of the Month. They purchased it in July 2012.

Steve says it’s very fun to drive but lives up to the saying on the back, “Flirting With Disaster.” It weighs a little less than 1,400 pounds and has a 400 horsepower motor. Steve barely fits into it with its customized top. The gold-leaf accents, brass headlights and radiator set it apart from other T-Buckets. It was built in the early ’80s as a show car.
Steve likes older cars and, when he found this old show car on Craigslist, he knew it was just the car he wanted to add to his collection. The car was located in Tehachapi Mountains and the owner told him that there was another buyer who was going to look at it that evening. He told Steve he would call him back if he did not sell it.

Fortunately, the buyer never showed. So the seller called Steve the next morning and Steve immediately drove up to the mountains.  He was very pleased that the car looked as good as it did in the pictures. He placed a deposit on the car, then drove 150 miles back home and called Pete Delia to ask him if he could borrow his trailer to pick up the car.

Pete was very gracious and let him use the trailer.

Steve picked up the car that Friday and has enjoyed taking it to car shows ever since. The car has been in many local shows as well as shows in Big Bear and Solvang and the Dr. George Car Show in Coachella Valley.

Steve and Joanie would like to thank Car Club members for the great times they’re having, especially Jim and Ann Bond for the use of their trailer for out-of-town shows.
