Rock and Blues icon Rick Derringer will perform in the fifth and final con- cert in the 2017 POA Concerts at the Lodge series.
Tickets for the Nov. 4 concert are on sale now and can be purchased at the POA office and on the POA website at canyonlakepoa.com. General admission tickets are $30; reserved VIP tickets are $55.
Rick is a Grammy award-winning producer and entertainer who has re- leased fourteen studio albums, three compilation albums and six live albums. He started his career at an early age. At just 17 years old, Rick was the lead gui- tarist and singer for The McCoys, who in 1965 recorded the number one smash hit “Hang On Sloopy.”
Rick also recorded the 1974 hit “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo,” a song later fea- tured in the 1993 film “Dazed and Con- fused,” knocking “Yesterday” by the Beatles out of the top spot. He opened for Led Zeppelin in 1977.
Throughout the 70s and 80s, Rick ap- peared on numerous albums and toured with Alice Cooper, Richie Havens, Todd Rundgren, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Barbara Streisand and Kiss. He also pro- duced records for Weird Al Yankovic and the World Wrestling Federation pen- ning entrance songs for Hulk Hogan.
The opening act for this concert will be One Guy & A Chick, featuring Canyon Lake resident Aprile DeAnne. Aprile, who opened for Berlin at the June concert at the lodge, received such a great response that Doug Schultz, Producer of Concerts at the Lodge, felt obligated to bring her back as her well-
known duo. “Aprile is a crowd pleaser and one of the nicest residents you will ever meet,” said Doug.
“The show consisting of a three to five piece band gives Canyon Lake resi- dents the opportunity to witness a true living legend and rock and blues icon in Rick Derringer,” said Doug. “Where else can you have a concert experience where you only drive a few minutes to get to the venue, park for free, have din- ner if you choose, and see an up front and personal concert with a real artist that you have been listening to on the ra- dio for years? Rick Derringer is the real deal and he will be here live in person performing all the hit songs from his long and illustrious career.”
The Rick Derringer concert will be the eleventh concert in the Concerts at the Lodge series since it’s inception in 2015.
Johnny Lee, David Cook, Hal Ket- chum, Collin Raye, Suzy Bogguss, Dar- ryl Worley, John Anderson, The Classic Rock All-Stars, Berlin, and Ty Herndon have all performed at the lodge as part of the series Doug said,
“It started with a conversation with then POA General Manager Chris Mitchell. He asked if we could do con- certs here in Canyon Lake. Meetings and conversations turned into the first two shows and would continue the fol- lowing year. Chris was professional and a gentleman to work with. New General Manager Eric Kazakoff is equally en- thusiastic and a pleasure to do business with. It’s nice to know that such a smart and personable guy is running our com- munity.”

Doug Schultz is the Concert Manager for the Entercom San Diego radio sta- tions and has worked with over 5,000 national acts in his concert career span- ning 32 years. He is the booking agent, producer, show runner and emcee of the POA’s Concerts at the Lodge events. “I am constantly asking for favors of art- ists I have worked with, trying to get them to perform here for less than what they normally get and play in a room that is smaller than they normally do,” said Doug. It’s challenging but fun and I love to do it for our community. Be- sides, it gives my wife Anneda and I the opportunity to reconnect with these art-
ists, many of whom spend the night at our home, taking in a boat cruise and fun on the lake.”
Doug will be announcing the 2018 Concerts at the Lodge line up at the be- ginning of the concert. “I am so proud to produce these shows for the community I live. In Canyon Lake, where practical- ly everything is subsidized, Concerts at the Lodge actually generates income for the POA. Plus it is humbling to see Can- yon Lakers get emotional when witness- ing a real artist that they love so much right here in our Holiday Bay Room at the lodge,” said Doug. “There really is nothing like it.”
