FEBRUARY 17, 2017 THE FRIDAY FLYER A-5 Families invited to magical dinners at Lighthouse
The community is invited to a unique opportunity to have a magical dinner at the Lighthouse Restau- rant. Those who dine at the Lighthouse on Wednesday, March 1 and 22, will be treated to close-up magic at their table during dinner.
“Chef Anton” Riniti will be performing strolling close-up magic from table to table from 6 to 8 p.m. during the Family Dinner and Magic Nights. Kids un- der 10 years old eat free with one paid adult from the regular dinner menu during show hours. Some of the previous magic dinners were sold out, so reservations are highly recommended.
Families who attend will be treated to a magical ex- perience that is sure to inspire and awe. Some people who attend may even be surprised to find their watches have vanished off their wrists only to have it magically reappear in a sealed envelope in Anton’s wallet.
“In this day and age, family interaction is at an all- time low, so we would like to bring excitement and magic to everyone who supports the local Lighthouse Restaurant,” says Anton. “We encourage families of all ages and sizes to take advantage of this unique oppor-
tunity to have a magical dinner and to support our local community.”
Anton, who recently appeared on the television show Penn & Tellers Fool Us, has been practicing magic since he was four years-old. He turned profes- sional in 1989. He’s also consulted on magic and bil- liards for several major networks including ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC.
Anton is a two time United States Trick Shot cham- pion of pool, award winning close-up and stage ma- gician from the Magic Castle in Hollywood and one of the world’s foremost authors on hustling and con games. He was the first billiard trick shot artist to be invited to perform at the Magic Castle.
In addition to performing magic, this jack of all trades is the author of “Cook with Love and Serve Fam- ily Style.” The book is filled with recipes from family and friends, many of which have been kept secret for generations, along with original recipes developed at the Culinary Institute of America by Anton.
For dinner reservations at the Lighthouse Restau- rant, call 951-244-6841, ext. 771.
Five-year-old Gwendolyn West said she had a fun time seeing the magic and getting dressed up for her grand- mother-granddaughter date. Her grandmother, Judi Mer- edith, said Gwendolyn can’t wait to do it again.
Red Cross urges public to donate blood now
American Red Cross is experiencing a severe winter blood shortage and is urging the public to give blood now. According to the American Red Cross, since December 1, 2016 about 300 blood drives across 27 states have been forced to cancel due to inclement winter weather, resulting in more than 10,500 blood and platelet donations going uncollected. Despite the weather, hospital patients still rely on transfusions.
Currently, blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in. Jim Taylor, a blood donor who knows how it feels to have a loved one waiting for a transfusion, says, “When the Red Cross says there is a shortage, they are not exaggerat- ing.”
Jim’s son Aaron was born with a rare liver condi- tion. In the short two months of his life, he received 115 blood products. Jim says each transfusion gave his

family more time with his son, so he encourages others to give.
“I know from experience that what they are saying is somewhere there is a father waiting on the donation that will save his son’s life When the Red Cross asks for help, what that means is a new dad is praying for a miracle,” says Jim.
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable sup- ply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
To make an appointment to give blood, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood. org or call 1-800-Red-Cross. To save time, donors can make appointments and complete the Rapid Pass on- line health history questionnaire at redcrossblood.org/ rapidpass.
The American Red Cross supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood. It’s a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the public to perform its mission. For more information, visit redcross.org. The Red Cross also can be found on Twitter at @redcross.
