Flashback Fiesta is just one week away!
Poodle skirts and tie-dye, headbands and bobby sox, peace symbols and go-go boots all will be in style next Saturday, May 28, when Flashback Fiesta brings back the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s! Those brave enough to wear any of the above likely will find themselves in front of a camera sometime during the day. (You always wanted to have your picture in The Friday Flyer or on Facebook; right?)
The fun begins at 9 a.m. with a parade down Canyon Lake Dr. to the Lodge. This usually consists of a lot of decorat- ed golf carts, a few interesting “floats,” dignitaries in convertibles, equestrians on horseback, classic cars, Veterans Bri- gade, Titan football players, Titan Jazz Band, Titan Drum Line, dancers, and various other clubs and organizations throwing things like tennis balls and candy.
Red white and blue never goes out of style in Canyon Lake, nor does the U.S. flag! Spectators lining the parade route
will want to make sure they watch for the Coldwell Banker golf cart passing out flags before the parade begins.
On the Lodge grounds, opening cere- monies will begin at 10 a.m. at the outside stage with an invocation by Pastor Pete Van Dyke, a presentation of colors by the California Military Institute Color Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts, the National An- them sung by the Elsinore High School Choir and an introduction of sponsors, dignitaries and veterans.
The food court and vendor booths will be open by 10, as will the kid zone. Activities will include performances by Parfait Acapella Group, Disco Dancing, Reptile Show, Dana the Magician, Beard & Mustache Contest, Name That Tune Contest, Hula Hoop Contest and a Mini Horse Petting Zoo.
The band Hodads will be performing on the outside stage at various times throughout the day. The magician, reptiles and dance groups will be
performing on the inside stage. Out on the beach, there will be tube-rolling in the swimming area for $5 per person; next to the Fiesta Day Committee booth there will be a rock-climbing wall for $5 per person.
Members of ShowCal Skiers and the Wakeboard Club will entertain the crowd with an afternoon Ski Show. (The Cardboard Boat Race has been moved to the Mermaid Festival on August 27 at Indian Beach.) Whew! It will be a fun day providing something for everyone! For parking reminders, schedule and further details, see the adjacent article.
