Get ready for ‘Flashback Fiesta!’
BY SHARON RICE
EDITOR, THE FRIDAY FLYER
Elephants may come and go, the tall man may change his britches. But one thing never changes: Fiesta Day remains a beloved tradition that takes place every year on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend at the Lodge. This year’s event will be on May 28. The theme is “Flash- back Fiesta – Celebrating the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.”
In keeping with the flashback theme, the Fiesta Day Committee has chosen to name as grand marshals three men who were instrumental in helping Can- yon Lake achieve cityhood and get it off to a strong start 25 years ago: John Giardinelli, Warren Kelsey and Jack Wamsley.
This event includes a parade down Canyon Lake Dr. to the Lodge, where a food court, vendor booths and kids zone fill the grounds. Activities, enter-
tainment and a ski show are scheduled throughout the day.
One of the activities that has been popular at the last three Fiesta Days is the Cardboard Boat Challenge – a race on the lake in boats made entirely of cardboard and duct tape. This popular event is being moved to the Mermaid Festival, which will be held August 27 at Indian Beach.
Canyon Lake residents, groups and businesses are invited to get involved in Fiesta Day by having an entry in the pa- rade or having a food or vendor booth at the Lodge grounds. Information packets and application forms for each can be found on the POA website. (Visit www. canyonlakepoa.com, click on “Things to Do,” click on “Annual Events,” click on “Fiesta Day,” scroll to the bottom for printable forms.) The application dead- line for parade entries and booths is Fri- day, May 13.
Putting on Fiesta Day is a big and costly job. The Fiesta Day Com- mittee has been hard at work since the beginning of the year
and would like to remind in- dividuals and businesses that there are advertising
and sponsorship opportuni-
the POA sponsor- Mem-
ties. See website for a
