MARCH 25, 2016 THE FRIDAY FLYER A-3
Main Gate sign, trees were gone by Monday
BY SHARON RICE
EDITOR, THE FRIDAY FLYER
Some residents were glad to see the 30-year-old entry monument go this week, while others admitted feeling a little sentimental about its demolition on Monday, The downing of mature pine and palm trees also was necessary to make way for the new configuration of three lanes in, three lanes out at the Canyon Lake Dr. South entrance to the community.
As promised, there continues to be one entry lane and one exit lane open to through traffic on Canyon Lake Dr. South.
The POA offers these traffic tips dur- ing construction:
• The goal is to keep at least one en- trance lane and one exit lane maintained at all times. Residents are advised to use other gates when possible to avoid delays. Construction hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic lights on Railroad Canyon and Goetz Roads will be on timers during peak construction hours.
• Temporary pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. School buses and regular traffic are able to go through the Main Gate but should expect delays. Commercial vehicles are required to use the East and North Gates.
• At the Main Gate, a temporary guard booth is set up to verify residents and guests and administer guest passes via an iPad. Temporary guest passes will be issued to visitors, though they will not be printed passes.
• To accommodate the heavier traffic, East Gate entry lanes are temporarily modified: left lane for visitors, center lane for returning guests and decals, and right lane for commercial vehicles and decals.
New Access Options Coming
Upon completion of the Main Gate project, there will be three entrance lanes into the community and two new convenient options for members to ac-
cess the community.
The left lane will be for guests and
members who do not have a valid POA proximity card (see below). The center lane will be for returning guests with a valid guest pass, members with a valid POA proximity card, and members with a valid vehicle decal. The right lane will be designated for members who have purchased a RFID vehicle transponder.
New Option 1 – POA Proximity Card
In 2015, the Association started is- suing POA proximity cards that will be compatible with the new card readers planned for the Main Gate center lane and pedestrian sidewalk access gate. To access the community via the card reader, members simply touch the POA proximity card to the reader and the gate arm will automatically open.
To obtain a new POA proximity card, visit the Member Services office and be camera ready. Members will be required to complete a use agreement form and take a picture. The card will be printed and issued immediately. For those who have lost or misplaced their previously
issued proximity card, a replacement can be purchased for $35.
New Option 2 – RFID Vehicle Transponder
The far right lane at the Main Gate will be equipped with RFID (radio frequency identification) technology to quickly grant member access. This technology is designed to automatically open the gate when a vehicle equipped with an Association issued RFID tran- sponder drives towards the gate. This far right lane will not be manned and will only allow entrance to those who have a valid RFID transponder.
Members who wish to purchase a RFID sticker will need to bring the ve- hicle to the Member Service office and the following items:
• Current vehicle registration (must be registered to a community member)
• Photo identification (POA card or driver’s license)
• Payment of $20 per transponder (no cash)
Once purchased, a Member Services Associate will install the transponder on
the vehicle. Members who do not bring the vehicle to the office cannot be issued a transponder. The RFID transponder does not have to be replaced on an an- nual basis; however, members must pro- vide annual registration to reactivate the transponder.
