Power Outages
Southern California Edison encour- ages residents to call the SCE 24-hour emergency hotline at 800-611-1911 to report an unscheduled outage. It is the primary way for SCE to know there is
a problem so crews can be deployed. Residents who experience outages can check the “Outage Center” at www.sce. com to learn what time they can expect power to be restored.
Fire Department Imposters
On January 20, the Riverside County Fire Department was made aware of two individuals soliciting personal informa- tion for a fire safety program within the City of Temecula. The City of Canyon Lake would like its citizens to know that neither the City of Canyon Lake nor the Riverside County Fire Depart- ment would request personal informa- tion from citizens, nor discuss fire safety programs by visiting residents (or busi- nesses) door-to-door.
In the past, imposters also have posed as fire department inspectors at con- struction sites or businesses requesting fees for onsite fire inspections.
The City of Canyon Lake is request- ing its citizens to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 951- 210-1000 if they feel they have been victimized. Officials also would like to remind citizens never to give personal information to solicitors.
Only rain in the drain
Disposing of pollutants into the street, gutters, storm drains or Lake is prohib- ited by law and can result in stiff penal- ties. Storm drains are not connected to sanitary sewer systems and treatment plants. The primary purpose of storm drains is to carry rainwater away from developed areas to prevent flooding.
Pollutants discharged to the storm drains are transported directly into the
Lake. Capture and dispose of wastewa- ter and chemicals properly. Remember, storm drains are for receiving rainwater runoff only.
For more information or to report il- legal discharges, call Canyon Lake Code Enforcement at 746-7978.
El Niño Preparedness
The City website, cityofcanyonlake. org, has a link devoted to El Niño Pre- paredness. Currently, it can be located under “Services” at the top of the homep- age. It states, “The City of Canyon Lake is dedicated to preparing its residents for the upcoming El Niño season. These pag- es were designed to provide information so that residents can prepare themselves and their families. In the event that the City experiences road closures or emer- gency situations due to El Niño events, please check the ‘Emergency Updates’ and ‘Road Closures’ pages periodically for the most up-to-date information.
Sand, sandbags and a shovel are lo- cated behind the fire station on Vacation Dr. It’s open daily from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If sandbags are needed when the gate is locked, contact Community Pa- trol at 244-6841, ext. 410, and an officer will arrive to unlock the gate.
Sign Up for Code Red
The City of Canyon Lake has an emergency notification system called CodeRED, which will alert each resi- dent by phone or e-mail in the event of an emergency. The ultra high-speed tele- phone communication service allows the City to telephone all or targeted areas in case of an emergency.
Sign up for the service at www.cityof- canyonlake.org. Once on the website, go to Disaster Preparedness, then to the Code Red link. Those who previously have signed up and haven’t made chang- es to their contact information don’t need to sign up again.
