MARCH 20, 2015 THE FRIDAY FLYER A-5
Car Club to display autos Sunday at ‘A True
American Hero’ event at Audie Murphy Ranch
Canyon Lake residents who have always wanted to check out the new neighbors at the Audie Murphy Ranch development have a good excuse this weekend. On Sunday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Home- builder Brookfield Residential is hosting a public event, “A True American Hero,” at the Audie Murphy Ranch Sports Park, 30376 Lone Pine Dr. in Menifee. The family event will include food, K-FROG radio and classic cars provided by the Canyon Lake Car Club.
It is designed to honor local members of the military, veterans, firefighters and law enforcement professionals, as well as cel- ebrate the legacy of Audie Leon Murphy, the community’s namesake. Murphy was the most decorated U.S. combat soldier of World War II. He later became a movie star and ap- peared in 44 films before settling on the land that is now Audie Murphy Ranch, where he raised horses.
Paloma Valley High School Band will kick off the day’s festivities with a live per- formance at 11 a.m., and country music sta- tion K-FROG will be on site with giveaways including passes to the 2015 Stagecoach country music festival.
Other festivities will include a classic car show with automobiles from the Can- yon Lake Car Club, and gourmet fare being served throughout the community from food trucks such as The Grilled Cheese Truck, Devilicious Food Truck, Sprinkles Cupcakes and more.
The 1,100-acre Audie Murphy Ranch property borders an ecological preserve, with trails and paseos connecting residents to the community amenities.

Paul Price will take walkers to early village sites on Audie Murphy Ranch
Canyon Lake resident Paul Price, a professional artist who has spent his whole life collecting artifacts and docu- menting local history, is continuing to educate local groups about the mining history and early native history of the
Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Perris and Temecula Valleys.
On Thursday, March 26, at 8:30 a.m., Paul will be taking a number of Canyon
Lake residents on a tour of early village sites in the preserved area of Audie Mur- phy Ranch. To learn more about that outing, visit clfoow.webs.com.
Last weekend, March 13 and 14, he led a group of about 200 men on a tour of the Good Hope Mine and to a couple of native rock art sites in Perris Valley. The group belongs to the Billy Holcomb Chapter of E Clampus Vitus (ECV) 1069, a California registered 501c non-profit involved in sites of historical significance. It is a fraternal historical organization that, among other things, designs, builds and maintains a good number of historical plaques, markers and monuments around Southern California.
On March 3, Paul gave a lecture on “Site Migration in Lake Elsinore” to the Lake Elsinore Historical Society. He says, “It was well received and they were surprised by the disappearance of their prime sites within their city boundaries and what sites remain. I offered suggestions for their Society to keep the remaining sites from further destruction.”
