CLMS cheer competition team off to a great start

The Canyon Lake Middle School cheer competition team is off to a great start and on track for another record-breaking season. The team had an undefeated 2017-2018 season and won both the USA Jr. Nationals and CheerPros State. “Our goal this year is to be even better,” said coach Tammy Howard.

The team competed in December at the USA Regional Competition in Irvine where they placed first and qualified for USA Jr. Nationals. They also placed first at the NCA & NDA SoCal Regional Championships on Dec. 12 in Irvine. They took home the Overall Regional Champion award for having the highest score out of all the teams, including the high school teams. The girls were also awarded pennants for Best Use of Tumbling and Best Use of Jumps.

The team went back to work over their winter break to prepare for three competitions in January, including another USA Regional and CheerPros State Championships.

The team will have one or two more competitions in February before ending their season with USA Jr. Nationals on Feb. 23 and 24 in Anaheim. Howard said the team is looking forward to nationals and the opportunity to reclaim the USA Jr. National title again this year.
