In Memoriam: Scott A. Collins

Scott A. Collins

Scott A. Collins, 94, of Canyon Lake, California, passed in peace at home on Jan. 4, 2019.

Scott was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on Feb. 20, 1924, to Dr. Chauncey M. Collins and Ethel Mae (Brown) Collins. He was the middle child out of three and graduated from Missouri Military Academy in May 1943.

Scott joined the Army in November 1943 and served in WWII (Pacific) as an amphibian truck driver. He returned to Iowa after the war to be called back to service again in our country’s emergency in Korea. Always honest and faithful, Scott returned to duty as an Army combat engineer from 1950 to 51. He said those were the hardest years of his life.

After returning from Korea, a brief stint in Iowa found himself and his family acquiring some warmer climate and new opportunities in California. Scott prospered in California and was always well-liked and loved by his associates and clients working as a salesman for the H. J. Heinz Company. He retired from the company after 31 years of vocation.

He found and married the love of his life, Marjorie Ann (Willis) Collins, in 1967. They had one child, Scott Willis Collins, and he became a stepfather to Joann, Debbie and Craig. Together the two raised a loving family living in beautiful homes across Southern California. Scott’s love for his family was apparent to all who knew him.

Scott was the life of the party, always well dressed and enjoyed staying active his whole life. He traveled the world, rode horses and motorcycles, played a lot of golf, loved to shoot pool, and was an expert marksman. He loved to play cards and was an avid reader. His reading contributed to his cleverness and wit, something we will always cherish. He was very handy and could fix anything he put his mind too. He provided countless hours of great memories having many outdoor adventures with friends and family. He impacted the lives of all those around him. He left this world a better place. Scott was a giving, humble, loving man.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Ann Collins and parents, Dr. CM Collins and Ethel Mae Collins, of Pomona, California, and brother Richard B Collins, of Fullerton, California, and Ruth Ann (Collins) Pierick, of Canyon Lake, California. His sister passed away one week before him. He is survived by his sons. Scott Willis Collins and Jeffrey Craig Lima, his daughters, Deborah Louise Lima and Joann Esther (Lima) Allen, eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His legacy will live on in the many that called him dad, grandpa and Uncle Fudd.

A joint memorial service will be held on Jan. 24, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the American Heart Association.
