Decorate a golf cart, join the Golf Cart Parade

A stream of decked out holiday golf carts will take to the streets of Canyon Lake on Sunday, Dec. 9, for the 8th annual Golf Cart Parade and Toy Drive.

The Street Carts of Canyon Lake invites residents to decorate a golf cart and participate in the parade. The entry fee is one unwrapped toy for the Toy Drive.

Registration and line-up start at 4:00 p.m. on Blue Bird Dr. The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Trophies will be awarded at the end of the parade for the best-decorated golf carts.

Participants and spectators should take note that the parade route and ending location are different than in past years.

The annual Golf Cart Parade and Toy Drive started in 2011 with approximately 20 golf carts, Since then, the event has grown to more than 100 golf carts. Due to safety concerns, the POA changed the parade route and ending location, and implemented some new rules.

The event details are as follows:

Registration: Participating golf carts must be registered with the POA and have a decal on cart. Participants must also register for the parade and sign a waiver form. The forms are available at the POA office and will be available at check-in on the evening of the parade.

Parade Route: The parade starting point is on the corner of Canyon Lake Drive South and Blue Bird Drive. From there, the parade will travel down Canyon Lake Drive and end at East Port Park. Carts must stay on the parade route and in the assigned order at all times. Passing other golf carts is not permitted. Headlights will be required to be on at all times during the parade. All participants must ride in a golf cart, no walking participation allowed.

Toy Drive: Volunteers will collect all the toys at the end of the parade. Those who are not in the parade but wish to participate in the Toy Drive are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to East Port Park at the end of the parade.

Alcohol: No alcohol (or drugs) will be permitted in assembly or along the parade route. No one will be permitted to enter the parade route under the influence of any substance.

Candy: For safety reasons, throwing candy is no longer permitted. Those who wish to pass out candy may do so at the end of the parade at East Port Park.

Street Parking: There will be no street parking on the east side of Canyon Lake Drive from Blue Bird Dr to East Pork Park from 4 to 7 p.m. on the evening of the parade.

Spectators: Spectators are invited to line the parade route and cheer on the whimsically decorated golf carts as they pass by.

End of Parade Party: The community is invited to attend the end of the parade party at East Port Park for an up-close look at the carts and a visit with Santa. There will also be holiday music, a taco truck and trophy presentation.
