Local calligraphy artist Risa Gettler will be visiting the library to make name bookmarks on demand on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 1 to 6 p.m. Watch while she turns each name into a work of art. Keep your requested bookmark for yourself or give as a gift. This is a free family program for all ages made possible through the support of the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library.

Visitors can practice their own lettering skills during the Make a Gratitude Art Project on Monday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. With the theme of Thanksgiving, the project will have smooth rocks and paint for individual artists to add a word of gratitude. The artworks will be kept by their creators.

The Library will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of Veteran’s Day. The book drop will be available and the online site rivlib.net can be used to renew and request items, as well as to research topics and download digital items.

Miss Ginny’s Story Time will be celebrating Thanksgiving on Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. The program is for children ages three to five and includes movement, live music and a fun story related craft the children can make and take home. The program will celebrate National Cookie Week on Nov. 30.

Play Day will be held on Monday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. with Movin’ n Music, followed by a craft, play time and then stories at 11 a.m.

Toddler Story Time meets every Monday at 11 a.m. Led by Mrs. Blackford, the children interact with the storytelling and have opportunities to use their growing vocabulary. The program is for ages three and younger. Babies are invited as the exposure to experiences and words is beneficial for positive brain development.

Book Clubs are available for adults and children in 4th through 7th grades. Each club selects one book everyone reads then meets at the end of the month to discuss topics from the reading. The Junior Book Club adds and extra craft or activity component related to the story. The library has copies of the monthly titles for new and current members to read during the month.

The Adult Book Club meets Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. The Junior Book Club meets Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. The November book is “Stick Dog” by Tom Watson.

Tutoring help is at the library on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. with the exception of Thanksgiving weekend. This program allows high school students to earn volunteer credit for helping others. Children needing help should bring any tools needed to explain what they need help with and any tools which may be required.
