Residents are invited to join the City of Canyon Lake in honoring veterans at its 10th annual Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday in the Towne Center. The celebration will commence with the Warbirds West flying over the Towne Center at 10 a.m. With an expected crowed of 500 and limited seating, residents are encouraged to arrive early.

Hosted by the City of Canyon Lake and the Canyon Lake Veterans Day Committee, the celebration provides an opportunity for residents to pause and honor the sacrifices of those who have served in the U.S. military and recognize the dedication of those who continue to serve.

Mayor Vicki Warren will be emceeing this year’s celebration. Three-year-old Canyon Laker Tegan Perry will sing the National Anthem. Veteran and Canyon Lake resident Adam McNaughton will recite the poem “Old Glory.”

The Canyon Lake Choraleers will lead the crowd in singing the service anthems for each military branch. As in past years, veterans of all five service branches will be encouraged to stand during the singing of their service anthems.

Patriotic Music will be provided by Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment. Elsinore High School Flying Tiger Jr. ROTC will post the colors and local Boy Scouts will be passing out the programs.

One rose for each Canyon Lake veteran who passed away this year will be placed in the urn next to the monument along with an extra rose for the unknown veterans. A floral wreath will be placed at the monument and will remain there for a week.

The Canyon Lake Quilters will raffle off a handmade “Quilts of Valor.” The drawing is free and limited to veterans. Canyon Lake artist Rita Forland’s oil paintings also will be a part of the drawing.

The POA will serve light refreshments and coffee prior to the start of the ceremony. Hot dogs will be served after the ceremony compliments of the Canyon Lake Market and Coldwell Banker.

Those who have old flags and would like to properly dispose of them may do so by bringing them to the celebration and placing them in the flag box in front of Pack, Wrap and Post.
